Social Impact

Issa Batrane

Issa is more than one of the top beach volleyball athletes in Great Britain.

He is more than his social media and outreach work that he does within UK volleyball.

He is an impressive individual with drive, charisma, personality, and a mission to raise awareness about climate change and equality for all.

We have all heard and read the news on the devastating effect of climate change, and the steps that individuals, companies and countries need to take to stop the rapidly evolving climate crisis.  But who can hold up their hand and say they are trying to make a difference? Who can say that they are actively involved in working with companies to make changes, and who can say they use their personal platforms in whatever form they are - small or large - to spread the word and engage the wider community?

Well, Issa is leading from the front. He is ambitious in raising awareness about climate change.  He is actively engaged with organisations that promote the messages he believes in, and he aligns himself to organisations that are willing to make a difference in the world of climate change and sustainability.

What does he do?

Issa is part of EcoAthletes. They are a group of world class athletes that inspire, coach and deploy world-class athletes to talk about climate change, jump-starting the #climatecomeback.

This group comes together in open forums and calls to discuss things going on in the world and ways in which they can impact change.

Example

Issa is an ambassador, and is sponsored by Prevented Ocean Plastic.

This organisation strives to protect the ocean coast lines and areas that don’t have a recycling system in place. They provide all the infrastructure and income opportunities for people from poor areas to bring in plastic to be recycled before it reaches the waters.  They produce recycled plastic that can be used for food products in major supermarkets, and so much more.

Issa believes in increasing the demand for more recyclable plastic, and preventing plastic waste.  For more information please visit their website www.preventedoceanplastic.com

Issa is also a sustainability ambassador for other brands and companies such as:

The Turmeric Co. who have just become Carbon Neutral after developing ways in which they can offset their carbon footprint.

Hylo Athletics, a company that makes a shoe for activewear that is 100% recycled. Issa is one of their ‘Athletes for Planet’.

Personally Issa also aligns himself to companies and charities like Bambuu Brush, and The Big Plastic Pledge.

With all of his roles, he discusses ways in which together they can generate impactful messages through different promotional methods and running events.

What can you do

Anybody can engage in raising the awareness of the environment, climate change and sustainability.  Simple steps like aligning yourself to national days like World Environmental Health Day, or engaging in the Big Plastic Pledge to understand your own personal plastic contribution.  Not only can you promote messages via social media, you can support carbon neutral or sustainable companies, you can reflect on your personal life and see where you can make changes.
